Gregory Mermoud is a Professor of Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and large-scale distributed systems. His research lies at the intersection of machine learning, simulation, software engineering, and data science. He teaches computer networking, machine learning and distributed computing. Gregory has over a decade of industry experience and he was the first Distinguished Engineer at Cisco to be appointed in the area of AI/ML. In this role, he led the development of four flagship products serving thousands of enterprise customers. Gregory authored more than 200+ U.S. patents and many peer-reviewed papers and monographs. As an engineering leader, he has built and managed large engineering teams, hiring over 50 engineers at Cisco, including many graduates from HES-SO. Outside of work, Gregory is usually hunting steep single trails on his mountain bike, playing the trumpet with his local band, or hiking to a remote mountain hut with his family.

Silvia Quarteroni is the Head of Innovation unit at the Swiss Data Science Center, a joint venture between EPFL and ETH Zurich whose mission is the enablement of data science and innovation for societal impact. Silvia heads a team of 25 scientists collaborating with Swiss companies and organisations to adopt data-driven solutions and integrate data science in their decision-making process.She is also an Innosuisse Innovation Council member, promoting novelty and value creation in the Swiss economic landscape. With a MSc in Computer Science from EPFL and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of York (UK), she has a research background in natural language processing at the Universities of York (UK) and Trento (Italy) as well as Politecnico Milan (Italy). In her academic career, she has focused on question-answering systems, human-computer dialogue and more generally on machine learning applied to text and audio. During the last 10 years, Silvia worked with several organizations as a technical lead, project manager and strategic partner in data science.
